What Is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a type of cosmetic dentistry procedure that uses a pliable, tooth-colored dental resin to restore your teeth. This resin is applied directly to your tooth, and is shaped and sculpted by Dr. Cherukuri to restore the shape and color of the tooth.

The result is a tooth that looks and feels completely natural. The resin used in dental bonding will match your existing teeth perfectly, allowing you to get the seamless, beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.

The Dental Bonding Process

After cleaning your mouth, Dr. Cherukuri will apply a very mild acid to the surface of each tooth that will be treated with dental bonding. This roughens the surface slightly, which ensures the bonding material can achieve a tight, strong hold on the tooth.

Next, Dr. Cherukuri will choose a tooth-colored resin that perfectly matches the color of your enamel, and apply it directly to the tooth. Using a variety of special dental tools, the resin will be molded and sculpted to correct and improve the appearance of your tooth.

Once the overall size and shape are perfect, the resin will be “activated” and hardened using a UV light. Then, your bite will be checked, and the bonded tooth will be trimmed and adjusted, if necessary. If you’re having multiple teeth bonded in one appointment, this procedure will be repeated for each tooth.

Once your procedure is over, you’ll be sent home. You don’t need to worry about taking any special aftercare precautions. Just brush and floss your teeth like you always have, enjoy your new smile, and remember to see Dr. Cherukuri every six months for a teeth cleaning and oral exam.

The Benefits Of Dental Bonding

First, dental bonding is very versatile. It can be used to treat a wide variety of different cosmetic issues, ranging from teeth stains to uneven and misshapen teeth and chipped teeth.

Dental bonding also is non-invasive, and does not require any removal of your natural enamel, unlike veneers. This means there is no drilling and no numbing shots are required throughout the process, which may make it a better option for patients who are anxious about seeing the dentist.
